Düsseldorf. The International Youth Convention returns one year later - and this time straight into your living room: On Ascension weekend 2020, the New Apostolic Church commemorates the great event in Düsseldorf, where more than 27,000 young people from all over the world came together. The highlights of the IYC2019 will be broadcast as live streams for four days.
Next weekend will be the first anniversary of the International Youth Convention. The date is not exactly the same, but the occasion is: Ascension weekend.
Live streams for four days
Originally, many congregations had plans to celebrate the anniversary with motto divine services for the youth. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, these divine services have become impossible and will be postponed. However, the organisers of the IYC have set up an alternative event: Every day from Thursday to Sunday, 21 to 24 May 2020, live streams of the IYC events will be broadcast on the IYC YouTube channel.
Download the mini guide
The programme for the weekend of the first anniversary of the International Youth Convention can be downloaded as a mini guide. In the preface, District Apostle Rainer Storck shows his enthusiasm: „I’m sure you too remember the four days fondly; the many encounters, the enjoyable events and especially the divine service with our Chief Apostle on Sunday..“
A lot of music
The weekend starts on Ascension Day (Thursday, 21 May 2020) with the English Ascension Day service. On the International Youth Convention, this divine service was conducted by Apostle David Heynes (UK). Afterwards, a broad mix of music will be broadcast. On Friday, viewers can see a retrospect of the opening event, followed by performances of bands.
On Saturday, the live streams on the YouTube channel will show the arena event „#HereThereEverywhere – Jesus the Light In Us”, followed by the concert „Face the Lord – facing you“.
Sunday will be the highlight of the weekend: From 12 o’clock (noon) until 10 PM, viewers will be able to see a mix of theological talks, concerts and further surprises. Highlights will be the International Christian poetry slam contest as well as an interview with Priest Thilo Wolff, founder of the Metal band „Lacrimosa“
Call to intercession
District Apostle Rainer Storck, who is the head of the New Apostolic Church West Germany and therefore the International Youth Convention’s host, addresses another point: “In light of the corona pandemic, I am thankful to our God that we did not have to deal with such a catastrophe last year. Just imagine we would have had to cancel the IYC at the last minute and all preparations would have been for nothing.”
He therefore asks the young people to be thankful: “When we now think back to the International Youth Convention, let us be thankful to our Heavenly Father and let us intercede for all people who are currently suffering from the coronavirus or its impact.”
