Green is hope - they say. But sayings are obviously not what they used to be, because what does the longest route to the arena have to do with hope except perhaps that the weather will hold or that the sneakers will withstand all of this? Many IYC participants, who were assigned to the green route, therefore discovered their tendency for black humour at the IYC - no joke! But what's the deal about all these routes?
"Jesus says: I am the way. He said nothing about route four." This and other jokes have been circulating since Friday at the International Youth Convention. They have been invented by those who have to walk at least once a day the two-kilometre path from the fairground to the arena. Passing hall 5, the route goes in a large curve around hall 6 and then, in an even larger bow, from behind to the north-west entrance of the sports arena.
Does the route lead via Cologne?
The green route is not entirely depicted on the map of the exhibition grounds. "That's because it leads via Cologne," some joke. But it is not that bad. However, this route is actually the longest of four routes in total, which direct the approximately 30,000 participants of the Youth Convention between the fair grounds and the stadium.
It's due to the security precautions
Those responsibles at the control centre give an explanation: only a specific number of people is allowed to be present on a certain space of the exhibition grounds at the same time. This is what the safety regulations say. Therefore, in those moments, when many people take the same route at once, the masses have to be divided up. Four routes have been set up - a blue one, a pink one, an orange one... and the green one.
Here you can find a video of the green route
Just how creative the young people are, can be seen in the pictures that are currently being shared actively on Facebook and WhatsApp amongst the participants all over the IYC fair ground. One picture shows a Trojan horse in front of the entrance to the pink route, the belly of the horse is full of people assigned to the green route. On another one: US President Donald Trump can be seen loudly demanding: "Build a wall - against the Green Route".
Anyone who wears has a pink, orange or blue wristband these days looks pitifully at everyone who has a green one. But the rumour is wrong that the "greens" in the food halls are given priority so that they can make it into the arena at all. However, the other rumour is true: The fact that “green participants” tend to come to the arena events a little later. That's why there was a lot of guffaw on Saturday evening when the stadium speakers announced that the event "Here, There, Everywhere" would start a quarter of an hour later. From the green block this announcement was commented with laughter - and with "green route calls".
For all those affected: Perhaps it helps to know that the best goal can be achieved only on the narrow path. And according to the theory of colours: Green stands not only for hope, but also for persistence...
