When I told my friends about my topic for this article, I received the same reaction every time: "6 o'clock? Would there already be breakfast?” But I'm even more interested in who voluntarily eats breakfast at this time of day on Saturday morning.
For my self-experiment today, I first of all have to make it to the food hall on time. Because of the IYC preparations and the IYC itself, I have only been able to sleep two or three hours almost every night since last Friday. And on top of that my self-experiment also takes place the morning after the IYC Club Night. A 45-minute power nap and a refreshing shower could save my day. According to the motto "Together we are strong" I get some support from my boyfriend Marco. We start the morning as grumpy zombies and are relieved when we reach Hall 4 and can now answer the question of my friends with "yes". In just a few moments the interviews give us our energy back. And we don’t regret anything. Back in the dormitory we realise how much more efficient a day can be if you start it with a 6 o'clock breakfast. Of course we don't want to withhold our research results from you. So, who do you meet when you go out for a 6 o'clock breakfast? The helpers That could have come to my mind before: of course the helpers have to be strengthened before the big rush starts. These people really impress me. They pay the same fee as we do and sometimes travel hundreds of kilometres to get here. And they do all of this just to work on the IYC all day long. Why do they do that? "We experience so much blessing here", we hear again and again from our friendly brothers and sisters. For me they are a model for active brotherly love. The night owls In fact, we even find some youth groups in Hall 4. Almost all of them have the same explanation for their decision: "We haven't slept at all today". Celebrate and sing all night long and then enjoy a good breakfast with your friends: That would be a nice challenge for the next night, wouldn't it? The Poets After considering these majorities, however, I would not like to forget the minority. In their opinion, breakfast tastes best at sunrise and in the bright morning sun. From this perspective I had never really considered the saying "You eat with your eyes". An advertisement for early breakfast You don't want to spend the precious time on the IYC with standing in queues anymore? Do you prefer to be able to remove the foil from the sandwich spread yourself? You just want to have a free choice of seats and spread out, as you like? You want to master a funny challenge with your friends or just have breakfast in peace? The 6 o'clock breakfast is the universal solution. So on your mark, set your alarm, go! But watch out: from 7 a.m. onwards, the exclusivity is over and in fact the first queues at the buffet start forming already. 1. June 2019
