The top-level planners of the International Youth Convention 2019 met in January, probably for the last time. In looking forward to the following months District Apostle Rainer Storck said, “We have entered the home straight and the tempo is rising”. The focus is now fixed on the final stage of the registration phase.
”More than 10,000 participants have now registered for the International Youth Convention”, reported Apostle Franz-Wilhelm Otten, business manager of the organising company IJT 2019 Düsseldorf gGmbH. He is very satisfied with the number, but it also shows how many have not yet completed their registration. The district churches should now be emphasising the need to register in groups before the deadline at the end of February.
Group registration to be completed by the end of February
The advantage of registering by groups is that they will be seated together in the Arena and will be accommodated together in one of the youth camps. From March onward, following the group registration phase, further registration will be on an individual basis. In addition, there can be no guarantee that the documents can be sent in advance of the start date.
Of course there will be the option for last-minute decision makers to pay their entry fee onsite. However, spontaneous visitors must reckon with more stringent security control checks.
A wide variety of musical choices
The planners are also focused on the big four events in the Arena, the exhibitors in Hall 6, “The Hall of Encounters”, and the communication. Apostle Hans-Jürgen Bauer, head of the music project group, revealed the official song of the Youth Convention, under the motto, “Here I Am”. He also gave a report on the wide repertoire of music on the programme, including on the open air stage. A party will be held in one of the halls on Friday evening –following a wish by many of the youth responding to the questionnaire sent out in 2017.
Ticket sales for the pop oratorio
The decision was made to provide tickets for open sale for the pop oratorio “I AM”. The concert will take place on Friday evening at 8 p.m. in the Düsseldorf Arena. For visitors to the International Youth Convention the concert is included in the 125 euro entry fee. Tickets for other visitors will be on sale through an online shop from March, costing 50 euros.
For organisational reasons, the seats taken up by the tickets sold cannot be used for any other purpose and so it was decided that ticket holders for the pop oratorio would also be invited to attend the divine service on Sunday with Chief Apostle Schneider.
The IYC planning executive
The top-level planning team has brought the ministers together from the European district churches with responsibility for youth counselling and the heads of the seven planning groups, where they have been able to make fundamental decisions and have kept themselves informed over the current state of planning development.
