The IJT 2019 Düsseldorf gGmbH has arranged with the Rheinbahn Düsseldorf company for participants of the International Youth Convention to travel free of charge by bus and rail to and from the event between 30th May and 2nd June. The combination ticket is valid for all four days on the Rhein-Ruhr regional public transport network (VRR) and is included in the 125 euros entry fee.
The organisers of the International Youth Convention recommend that all participants who are not sleeping on the Messe premises to travel in their groups to the Convention using the regional public transport system. Printed on the reverse side of each participant’s pass is a Rhein-Ruhr combination ticket (VRR Kombiticket), which permits its holder to travel free of charge by public transport from a wide surrounding area to all the events in Düsseldorf.
The Rhein-Ruhr public transport network encompasses the Ruhr district, the Lower Rhine district, part of the Bergisches Land and the capital city of North Rhine-Westphalia, Düsseldorf. Travel is free when using the 2nd class facility on any of the regional VRR transport services.
From the main railway station to the Messe
The tram rail service U78 travels from the Düsseldorf main railway station directly to the tram stop “Arena/Messe Nord”. Similarly, the service U79 travels between the main railway stations in Duisburg and Düsseldorf. The nearest tram stop to the North Messe entrance, “Messeeingang Nord”, is called “Freiligrathplatz”. From here it is about 10 to 15 minutes walk to the North entrance, “Eingang Nord”. That is the central entrance to all the events of the International Youth Convention.
The main transfer points in Düsseldorf are the “Hauptbahnhof” and the “Heinrich-Heine-Allee”. Almost all the main destinations in and around Düsseldorf can be reached from here. The tram stop “Arena/Messe Nord” is barrier-free for the disabled.
Tariffs of other transport systems are not accepted
The Rhein-Ruhr public transport network (VRR) borders to the North and to the East with the Westfalen tariff (WT), to the South with the regional transport system Rhein-Sieg (VRS) and the Aachen regional transport system (AVV) and to the West with the Netherlands.
The Kombiticket cannot be combined with the tariffs of other transport systems. An example is when travelling from Cologne, the VRS tariff applies and a ticket in the price category 3 must be purchased to “Langenfeld”. From there, the Kombiticket can be used.
